Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic treatment effective at alleviating symptoms in a range of mental disorders. It can be used in patients age 10 and up. This medication is better known by the brand names Seroquel and Tenprolide.

As an atypical antipsychotic, quetiapine is less likely to produce certain side effects than typical antipsychotics. Most notable among these side effects are extrapyramidal symptoms, which are movement and muscle control issues such as muscle spasms and muscle rigidity; these can be quite disruptive to a patient's day-to-day life.

Quetiapine Uses

This medication is used in a wide variety of mental disorders, both alone and with other medications. It helps stabilize mood, focus thoughts, and reduce impulsivity. Some of the more common conditions patients buy quetiapine to help with include:

• Extended release tablets are taken just once per day.

Both types of tablet may be taken with or without food according to personal preference. Many patients find taking tablets with food reduces nausea, if experienced. Neither type of tablet should be split, crushed, dissolved, or otherwise damaged; doing so significantly increases risk of side effects.

Treatment may continue for as long as it provides benefit and no complications develop. If treatment stops, dosage should be gradually reduced over several days to several weeks. Stopping treatment abruptly may cause withdrawal symptoms.
